taking it up a notch...
Sage advice on planning a stellar party from the uber creative Jordan Ferney of Oh Happy Day, applicable to everything from a birthday party to a wedding. I chose this photo from her post simply because it fits in with my recent rainbow infatuation. Seriously, I am obsessed. I shall blame it on the dismal weather.
cool blog!
The newest addition to my blogroll, and my newest addiction. Oh So Beautiful Paper satisfies the design snob, the paper fiend and the wedding buff inside me. What more can you ask for?
eye candy
Christmas shopping, DONE! Blog re-design, um, not quite. New wedding invitations, DONE! Yeah, that's right. Done. Stay tuned for a sneak peek of those tomorrow. Yay!
So I'm back from my little hiatus, trollin the web as usual, and I see that Oh Joy! has posted amazing pictures from a fantastic blog called Once Wed. I have never been to this blog before, but I was captivated! Such eye candy! So many pritty photos! Definitely worth a good long look.
candy bars
It's late, and I'm off to San Francisco early tomorrow morning (yay!). My twin sister moved there this summer to go to Berkeley for her PHD in archaeology. I haven't seen her since July, so I'm super excited! I'll be staying with her in Oakland, if anyone has any suggestions... I'm all ears.
I'm leaving you with this incredible eye candy from Amy Atlas Events, all sweetness and light! Via my favorite San Francisco based blog, Oh Happy Day.
the bride's guide
We all draw so much inspiration from MS Weddings magazine, I'm sure you'll all be thrilled to hear that there's now a blog! Updated daily, "The Bride's Guide" is written by MS editor Darcy Miller. Even though it's fairly new, (I think it started at the beginning of August), there are already some wonderful ideas up there along with some beautiful photography.
don't miss it!
Abby, over at Style Me Pretty, emailed me earlier this week about me about her fantastic Inspiration Board Contest. Even if you don't enter, the submissions she's collected are really spectacular. The creativity represented there is just amazing. Seriously, check it out.
love the list
Check out Indie Fixx for a great (indie only) summer wedding resource list. Love indie. Love the list!
cool blog: house martin
I feel like I don't post about flowers enough, they're such an important piece of the puzzle! So hang on to your hats, the gorgeous floral design and interiors blog Housemartin is making up for my lost time. Aren't these amazing? I found out about Housemartin thru WeddingBee, who found them via Decor 8. (it's such a happy little blogging neighborhood, wouldn't you say?) I think this will be a fantastic spot to check for centerpiece and bouquet inspiration, or if you happen to be located in the Portland area, you might be lucky enough to hire Ink & Peat to "do" your flowers.
must read!
Don't miss the Design*Sponge Guest Blog these next couple of weeks. We're being treated to "handmade wedding" tips from Rebecca of Moontree Letterpress. I know I'm really looking forward to it, and I thought you all might like a heads up!
cool blog: style me pretty
I'm always looking for blogs to add to the roster! Style me Pretty, written by Abby of Abby Jean Letterpress is the newest addition to the list. Turns out, Abby and I have a lot in common. We both write wedding style blogs, and we both design wedding invitations for a living. Huh. Check out her interviews and comprehensive "inspiration board" posts for ideas galore.
"colour" with a u
As pointed out so astutely by Vanda, COLOURlovers is a magical place to browse for color schemes. Whether you're looking for wedding colors or painting a room, this is a great place to brainstorm. It's kind of like standing in front of the paint-chip display at Home Depot, (one of my favorite places ever), only you can enjoy it in your own home, and for unlimited amounts of time. You can create your own palettes, or you can cruise other people's palettes and look for inspiration. I'm loving the deep red, pink, teal combo. So sultry, so perfect for winter.
cool blog: watch holly
Thru Fashion is Spinach, I found Watch Holly. I like Holly. Unbeknownst to her, she is acting as my canary. You know how miners used to send canaries down into the mines to make sure there was enough oxygen? If they died, then the miners didn't go down, if they came up alive, then the miners knew it was safe? Well, I'm using Holly for this purpose. She is pregnant. I'm seeing how it goes. If she can make it thru till the end, thru till the actual birthing without A) describing scissors and her nether regions in the same sentence and B) without buying, thinking of buying, understanding the concept behind, wearing, or considering the virtues of wearing "mom" jeans (the ones with the front ass)... I might start considering the possibility of maybe having a child one day in the distant, distant future.
lash update

As a supplement to a previous post about false eyelashes, I'd like to point you all in the direction of Tricia Sawyer who does a really amazing tutorial on how to apply a full fan of false eyelashes. She aslo has some other really helpful tutorials on applying eye makeup, foundation, and powder on her website. You can also subscribe to her video podcast and get your dose of "Trix of the Trade" delivered right into your itunes. New segments are released relatively regularly.
*You do need Flash 8 to view the tutorial directly from the link I provided. If you don't have it, you should get it. It's easy to install.
the dooce
I know I'm probably the last person on earth to discover this blog, Dooce. Please don't make fun of me. I found it last night, whilst poking around on Fashion is Spinach.
Since that time, I have relived entire chunks of Heather B. Armstrong's life, mainly the really juicy parts. I went cross eyed reading all the back logged entries from when she was pregnant. I read about her super husband. I got all weepy when she was talking about her struggle with depression. I feel like I know her baby, Leta.
I wasted entire chunks of this morning reading about the terrible twos.
It's better than TV. It's better than books. I hate books. I read blogs. I feel like I know this woman. I feel her pain. I want to invite her over for drinks. I want to pick up a copy of US Weekly for her at the grocery store, because I know that she likes them.
*Mom: I don't really hate books.

the wedding register
Oh, blog... I feel as though I've been away from you for too long! Hopefully today I'll be posting lots of goodies to make up for my weekend slackitude.
First off, I found another fun wedding blog that I'll be adding to the daily reads list. The Wedding Register is a great mix of interesting wedding related finds and equally interesting wedding related gossip. Blogger Melissa is quite a hoot, you should check her out.

fun fashion blogs
Whilst chillaxing this weekend, I found some really fun blogs that you should check out. Firstly, Fashion is Spinach is my new favorite fashion blog. I found myself reading all the archived posts, which is how I can tell if something is genuinely good.
Also on the radar is the already well known Go Fug Yourself, which had me laughing out loud as I read about the fashion tribulations of Hollywood's starlets. Heather and Jessica, the girls who write GFY are smart, funny, and they've got tongues like scimitars. Poor Mischa Barton just gets ripped to shreds, but I'll be damned if it isn't hilarious.
This just in from Martha Stewart: "Wasting time, it's a good thing".

cool blog: love made visible
Think of Love Made Visible as a booster shot of style! I just came across this blog thru Oh Joy! and I'm adding it to my daily inspirational reads. The author, Priya has a wonderful sense of design, and seems to find and post lovely, random, humorous, brilliant, and rare things on a regular basis. Check it out, I think you'll like it.
oh joy!

I've recently come across Oh Joy!, a creative blog with a wedding twist. Joy's "Here Comes the Bride" section is kind of like a designer's online wedding binder. Loads of style. Don't miss the creative cakes, funky hair pieces, and unusually stunning jewelry by Cynthia Kagoshima. Oh Joy!
