Here are some secrets (well they are actually proven to be successful) ideas for a FUN wedding reception.
~~~~
PICK AN UNFORGETTABLE GUESTBOOK IDEA
PICK AN UNFORGETTABLE GUESTBOOK IDEA
Do you really want everyone to sign their name in a book that may collect dust? Here are some ideas for a memorable keepsake that can be displayed in your home.
Puzzles...
A sentimental item
I still think that thumbprints are sweet and cute!
Have your guests sign a piece of artwork that can be hung in your home!
Jenga...Wouldn't it be fun to do this every year on your anniversary?
Did you know that The Carolina Inn offers custom silhouettes that can be framed? Ask a catering manager about the details.
HIRE A CLASS ACT
HIRE A CLASS ACT
WOW your guests during the cocktail reception with a mariachi or a big easy type of band.
PLAY DANCEABLE MUSIC
Whether you hire a band or a DJ ....make sure that the music never stops (even if they need to take a break..plan what is going to happen during these time...this will avoid the death of the party)
DJ YOUR OWN SONG
WHAT??? That's right..its the trend right now...pick a song that you love (I know I'd be jammin to Suit and Tie by Justin Timberlake) and get everyone excited and on the dance floor.
KEEP THE TOASTS SHORT
....and arranged...and rehearsed. Nothing is worse than having a best man babble on for 15 minutes about college parties or all people you dated before. My golden rule...NEVER open the toasts up for anyone who would like to participate!
~~~~~
ADD A LOUNGE AREA
This will help to keep guests entertained even when they are not dancing...and if they don't want to dance what a great place to just sit and relax.

MAKE THE FOOD FUN
Bump your bar up a notch and do a beer, wine, whiskey, or margarita tasting station

SERVE SWEETS AND TREATS
How fun would be to have a food truck pull in at the end of your wedding serving great smelling donuts
or a nostalgic ice cream truck...I would be one excited guest if I saw this coming!
Plan an interactive food station
~~~~~~
PLAN AN END OF THE NIGHT SURPRISE!!!
Want to be sure that your guests hang around after the cake is cut? Plan something fun at the end of the night and create anticipation as to what it might be.
Put together a choreographed dance with your groom and/or wedding party!
Late Night Snacks...love them...and so will your guests
HIRE A DAY OF COORDINATOR
You've got ideas...lots of them...but who is going to keep it all in check and make the details happen?
A wedding coordinator will alleviate your stress on the day of the wedding so that you can enjoy yourself!
My words of advice...remember that this is a BIG party...ask yourself..what would I have fun doing at a wedding? I mean...you plan what to do if you are having people over for dinner at your house! Approach your wedding day with the same enthusiasm. There are no rules anymore...so the sky is the limit.
Inspired By: Gold Leaves
Whoever thought of spray painting leaves gold was a genius...and it is one of our very favorite things to do when needing a hint of metallic at your table. It adds the perfect touch of elegance, especially for winter. We highly suggest this trick for your Holiday decor and it adds great shine for New Years as well! We always love the girls over at 100 Layer Cake and they recently posted a DIY tutorial for a golden magnolia wreath by Danielle from Brown Paper Design that we can't get enough of. The golden wreath paired with a gorgeous centerpiece like the one above is sure to have all your guests in awe!
Inspired By: Swedish Christmas
One of my favorite holidays comes from my heritage and my Swedish grandmother, her legacy still lives on as we hold tight to the traditions that have been passed down through the generations. Every December 13th on Santa Lucia Day, in the early morning hours, I was always awakened by the sounds of my mother singing a traditional Swedish Christmas song while carrying a tray of hot cocoa and pepparkakor cookies. The beauty of the candles and wreath on her head seemed magical at those moments. It was always one of my favorite parts of December and unfailingly came as a sweet surprise each year. Today, I too carry along the tradition with my little ones and even still the memories of these moments evoke such warm feelings. I loved waking up my own sleepy little babies this morning as the sun was rising and sharing with them the heritage that my mother also gave me. All dressed in white and with the wreath of candles on my head, my sweet Milla asked me if I was an angel. There may only be so many instances in her life where she thinks of her mother as such but for now I will hold on to that...
These are the feelings that bring me the most inspiration. Last weekend I was able to weave together all the elements that are dear to my heart in this special holiday to share with Green Wedding Shoes. The smells of Swedish desserts, Swedish meatballs, and hot chocolate have brought the memories soaring back. Paintings by Carl Larsson and rosy cheeked girls with braided hair have been dancing in my head. Pretty packages with dala horses hiding within, lit candles, green wreaths of fresh pine, and wood logs waiting to provide warmth are some of my favorite things for this ever so special day. What made recreating all of this extra merry is that I was fortunate enough to recreate the memories with my mother from Twigg Botanicals as we worked side by side.
Head on over to Green Wedding Shoes to view the inspired shoot we created with a great team of talent! Enjoy the inspiration boards below and we'd love to hear about any Christmas traditions that you have with your family.
We Come by "Southern" Naturally
I love The Carolina Inn...I work here so I guess technically I am supposed to...but I really love it. Maybe its because from the moment that I walked in the front doors it just felt like home or maybe its because I get to see so many "happy days" here. Whatever my reasons are there is no doubt that The Carolina Inn is a lovely place where one can gather with friends and family....and most certainly the perfect location for a wedding.
All weddings are special to us..We take a personal interest in the experience and the people involved. Our brides become our friends for life...they come back for anniversaries, birthdays, holiday festivities, and often for the weddings of their children. Yes...The Carolina Inn is a treasure...but only because our very special guests have made it that way. Thank you for always keeping the Inn close to your hearts.
Follow me over the next few days to see one of my favorite wedding couples tie the knot...in true Carolina Inn fashion...with sweet tea, colorful martinis, beautiful flowers, and the sounds of guests in celebration.
Until then....
Here are a few pictures of others with whom we have enjoyed the journey!
Thank You Becca!
